Nomcebo Mthethwa who is fondly known as Cebo was born in Mtubatuba, Ophaphasi. She went to school at Ekusasalethu High School and matriculated in 1998. In 1999 she enrolled at UNIZULU in the Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Law where she pursued studies in Economics. On completing her undergraduate studies, she enrolled for post graduate studies and obtained an Honours qualification in 2002.

It was during her stay at UNIZULU that her interest in Sports was nurtured and she was actively involved in the sport of Hockey and its administration. Cebo attributes her participation in sports at UNIZULU, for horning her people skills such as discipline, teamwork, respect, and the ability to communicate with other people. She further credits her participation in sports for making her successful in her studies.

On completion of her studies Cebo was drawn into athletics. A sport which she previously engaged in whilst still in High school. This she did by joining Empangeni Athletics club and her love for the sport of running was reignited. By belonging to an athletics club, she was able to get the necessary coaching and mentoring in a sport which she loved.

Since turning forty years, Cebo has joined association of senior athletes called master’s Association or KZNMA. This body guides and advises senior athletes in all areas of the sport and Cebo has been able to attain Provincial colours both 5000m and 10000m. Besides being a field and track athlete Cebo also participates in road running and has completed a few popular South African races such as the Two Oceans marathon and Soweto marathon. This graduate has bagged several achievements whilst representing KZN in places like Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, George, Rustenberg and Cape Town.

This proud UNIZULU graduate aspires to be a coach and guardian to up and coming rural girl athletes and as institution, we can be sure that we are well represented by this go achiever as she scales new heights. Besides representing UNIZULU very well in the sporting fraternity, Cebo is also gainfully employed as a customer consultant at ABSA.

UNIZULU is indeed immensely proud of this graduate.
